Following the unexpected dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri from AC Milan, Napoli’s interest in the coach has reportedly waned. According to Alfredo Pedullà, Napoli is now increasingly turning its attention to Vincenzo Italiano as their preferred managerial candidate.
The coaching carousel in Serie A has been highly active in the immediate aftermath of the season’s conclusion. Napoli had previously announced the mutual parting of ways with Antonio Conte, despite him having a year remaining on his contract, following their Scudetto and Supercoppa Italia triumphs over two seasons.
Massimiliano Allegri was initially considered the frontrunner to succeed Conte, with reports suggesting he had been in discussions with Napoli director Giovanni Manna in recent weeks. However, paradoxically, Allegri’s recent sacking by Milan and his availability as a free agent seem to have diminished his appeal to Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Napoli Shifts Focus to Italiano Over Allegri
Sportitalia transfer expert Pedullà indicates that Napoli is now intensifying their efforts to secure Vincenzo Italiano, who is currently still under contract with Bologna. Italiano has been a long-term prospect for the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona hot seat and is perceived as having a significantly more proactive playing style compared to Allegri.
His tactical approach was evident in Bologna’s surprising 3-2 away victory against Napoli earlier this month. The former Fiorentina manager is expected to hold discussions with Bologna’s management this week to determine their future plans.
While Andoni Iraola was mentioned by some sources as a potential candidate, Pedullà is confident that this scenario is unlikely for the former Bournemouth coach.
