Cremonese Player Receives Lengthy Ban for Referee Confrontation

Alberto Grassi, a player for Cremonese, has been suspended for four matches after he verbally abused and physically pushed a referee. This incident occurred during the team’s 4-1 loss to Como, a match marked by intense emotions and a critical need for Cremonese to secure a win to avoid relegation from Serie A.

The team reacted with significant frustration to a controversial penalty awarded to Como. This led to multiple red cards being issued: Grassi was sent off on the field, while teammates Milan Djuric and David Okereke, who were on the sidelines warming up, also received dismissals for confronting an assistant referee.

Cremonese and Other Serie A Players Face Suspensions

The Lega Serie A has officially announced the sanctions. Grassi’s four-match ban stems from using a highly offensive blasphemous phrase, approaching the referee Fabio Maresca in a menacing way, and giving the official a light push.

His teammate Milan Djuric has been suspended for two matches for insulting officials, and David Okereke received a one-game ban.

Additionally, Udinese defender Christian Kabasele has been banned for two matches. He was sent off in his team’s match against Napoli for kicking out at Rasmus Hojlund off the ball.

The final one-match suspensions, which will carry over into the next season, have been issued to Nicolas Valentini (Verona), Sascha Britschgi (Parma), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Inter), Ylber Ramadani (Lecce), and Jamie Vardy (Cremonese).
