History is poised to repeat itself as Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly set to take over as head coach of Napoli for the 2026-27 season, a scenario echoing his move to Juventus before the 2014-15 campaign.
Allegri Poised to Replace Conte Again
Recent reports from Italy indicate that Napoli has significantly advanced negotiations with Allegri in the past 24 hours. A verbal agreement for a two-year contract at the Stadio Maradona is understood to be in place.
Antonio Conte had previously confirmed his departure from Napoli at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. Coincidentally, Allegri’s exit from AC Milan was made official the day after the season ended, following the Rossoneri’s failure to secure Champions League qualification on the final matchday.
Now, after just one season back at the helm of Milan, Allegri is expected to succeed Conte at Napoli.
This situation bears a striking resemblance to what occurred at Juventus over ten years ago. Conte left the Turin club shortly before the start of the 2014-15 season, and Juventus opted for Allegri, who had departed from Milan only a few months prior.
Conte had led Juventus to three consecutive Serie A titles during his tenure, and the Bianconeri remain the only club where the coach has managed for more than two seasons. The reins were then passed to Allegri, who went on to secure the next five consecutive Serie A championships.
