AC Milan icon Cafu has voiced his support for the current Rossoneri squad, asserting that every player on the team possesses the capability to play for esteemed clubs like Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain. This comes despite Milan’s underwhelming performance in Serie A, as they approach the Champions League final.
In an interview with MilanNews.it, transcribed by TuttoMercatoWeb, the former Brazilian international acknowledged that the club’s fifth-place league finish fell short of expectations, especially following another season that did not feature a significant European run.
“We always aspire to the best for Milan and we always hope they can progress as far as possible,” Cafu stated. “Unfortunately, it did not happen this time, but we are hopeful they will secure a return to the Champions League next season.”
The ex-right-back was also questioned about the recent changes within the club’s management, including the departures of key figures and Zlatan Ibrahimović’s evolving role.
“It is not my place to determine what is correct or incorrect for Milan,” he explained. “There is a dedicated team responsible for those decisions. However, as a devoted Milan supporter, I will perpetually wish to see Milan grow ever stronger.”
Cafu further reflected on his own illustrious tenure at San Siro, pinpointing his most cherished memory in the Rossoneri colors. “My most memorable moment with Milan was winning the Champions League for the first time,” he shared.
However, his most striking assertion emerged when queried about the current Milan roster’s potential to compete at clubs like Champions League finalists Arsenal or PSG.
“All of them! Because they are good players,” Cafu responded without hesitation.
The Brazilian acknowledged that missing out on Champions League qualification was a significant setback but argued that it should not diminish the squad’s inherent quality. “It is unfortunate that they did not qualify for the Champions League, but that does not imply they are not good players,” he added. “Sometimes, a team simply experiences a challenging season. Hopefully, things will improve next year.”
