Lameck Banda's Transfer Saga Intensifies: FIGC Blocks Swehly SC Move Due to Lecce Contract

August 12, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has supported US Lecce's position and prevented Lameck Banda from joining Swehly SC, asserting that he remains under contract with his current club. This decision could lead to the dispute being brought before FIFA.

The attacking winger has been absent from training for over a month, having failed to return to Italy for pre-season preparations. For weeks, he has been unreachable, not responding to calls from the club or his official agent.

Banda's Absence from Lecce

Concerns were raised when Banda was seen with directors from the Libyan club Swehly SC, a club that had a prior transfer offer for the player rejected by Lecce earlier in the summer.

The FIGC announced today that it has denied the transfer clearance requested by the Libyan Federation for Banda's move to Swehly SC.

Reports indicate that the Zambian striker claims he was unaware of a clause in his contract with Lecce that allowed the club to extend it by an additional year for the 2026-27 season. He believed he would be a free agent from July 1, 2026, and is consequently refusing to acknowledge the contract's validity.

The FIGC's official statement confirms that Banda's contract with Lecce is in effect until June 30, 2027.
