Caretaker coach Silvio Baldini is set to reveal his Italy squad for the upcoming June friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece on May 25. The selection is expected to include a number of new faces, with several debutants likely to be called up, alongside the experienced captain Gigio Donnarumma.
Interim Italy coach Baldini will officially announce the squad on Monday, May 25, according to reports from Gazzetta. The team will consist of approximately 25 or 26 players, many of whom are anticipated to be promoted from the U21 squad.
Italy’s June 2026 Friendly Schedule
Captain Gianluigi Donnarumma is confirmed to be part of the squad. However, some established Azzurri players, such as Sandro Tonali, might be given a rest.
Despite failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Italy is scheduled to play two friendly matches in June to fulfill broadcasting rights obligations.
Players are expected to gather at Coverciano on the evening of May 28. The team will then travel to Luxembourg on June 2, the day before their first friendly encounter.
Following their match in Luxembourg, the squad will return to Italy on June 4. They will then depart for Greece two days later, on June 6. The second friendly will take place on June 7 against Greece at the Pankritio Stadium in Candia.
Silvio Baldini has been temporarily elevated to the head coach position from his role with the U21 team. Carmine Nunziata will take charge of the U21 team for their own friendly match against Albania in June.
