Following his match-winning goal for Bologna against Napoli on Monday, English winger Jonathan Rowe paid homage to the legendary Diego Armando Maradona by posing with a statue of the football icon.
Bologna secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Napoli, with Rowe netting the decisive goal in stoppage time through an impressive volley. This marks a significant moment for the 23-year-old winger in his debut season with Bologna.
Rowe has scored a total of eight goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this season for the Italian club. The former Marseille and Norwich City prospect marked his latest triumph with an Instagram post featuring a photograph taken next to the Diego Armando Maradona statue, prominently displayed in the tunnel of Napoli’s stadium, which bears the legend’s name.

Initially, Rowe faced challenges integrating into the team under Bologna’s coach Vincenzo Italiano, but he has since established himself as a regular starter at the Stadio Dall’Ara, particularly in the latter half of the campaign.
Reflecting on his early days at the club in an April interview, Rowe stated, “It wasn’t immediate to understand your football, and the coach took a bit longer to integrate me into the team in the best possible way. I’m not sure why, maybe he saw something I hadn’t seen. But I kept working hard to earn my place.” He added, “As wingers, we’re often substituted, so we have to be decisive as quickly as possible. The coach and I are starting to understand each other much better; time helps build chemistry and a good relationship.”
