Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Italian coach Enzo Maresca is considered the “only candidate” for the Manchester City manager’s position, should Pep Guardiola depart at the end of the current season.
Maresca, who previously managed Chelsea and Parma, is reportedly seen as the sole contender for the Manchester City job in the 2026-27 campaign, as per Romano’s insights.

Maresca had success at Chelsea, winning the Conference League and Club World Cup, but left Stamford Bridge on January 1, 2026, citing disagreements with the club’s management.
A former Juventus midfielder, Maresca is reportedly awaiting Pep Guardiola’s decision regarding his future at Manchester City and a potential offer from the club.
Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad Stadium has one year remaining, but his long-term future remains uncertain, with the possibility of him leaving this summer.
Maresca served as Guardiola’s assistant coach during the 2022-23 season, a period when Manchester City achieved a historic Treble.
The Italian tactician also had a stint at the Manchester City youth academy between 2020 and 2021.
“What matters, regardless of the club, is being ready,” Maresca stated in a recent interview with Sky Sport Italia. “There are only a few weeks left until the end of the season, then we’ll see what happens.”
