Sassuolo and Lega Serie A have reacted to the severe injury sustained by Canadian national team player Ismael Koné, offering their best wishes for a swift recovery.
Koné, a midfielder for Sassuolo, suffered a broken leg during Canada’s commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar in a 2026 World Cup group stage match. The incident occurred on Thursday.
Following the injury, Koné underwent immediate surgery in Vancouver. His teammate Moïse Bombito visited him during his recovery.
Koné was a key player for Sassuolo during the 2025-26 season, contributing six goals in 36 appearances and playing a significant role in their Serie A campaign. The Italian club shared a supportive message on social media.
“Get well soon, Isma,” Sassuolo posted on X, formerly Twitter. “We are with you, and we will overcome this challenging period together.”
Lega Serie A also joined Sassuolo in extending well wishes for Koné’s recovery, sharing a message on Facebook: “We look forward to seeing you back in action! Get well soon.” The league’s message was accompanied by an image of Koné celebrating a goal prior to his injury in the second half of the match.
While the exact recovery timeline for Koné is not yet known, it is evident that he will be sidelined for several months, missing a significant portion of his club’s upcoming season.
