Canada Defender Visits Injured Koné in Hospital Following Surgery

Ismael Koné, a midfielder for Sassuolo, has undergone surgery after sustaining a broken leg during Canada’s decisive 6-0 World Cup victory against Qatar. Following the operation, his compatriot and teammate, Moïse Bombito, paid him a visit at the hospital.

While Canada celebrated their historic first-ever World Cup win, significantly boosted by Jonathan David’s hat-trick, the match was overshadowed by a severe injury to Koné.

The 24-year-old Koné was stretchered off the field after a dangerous tackle from Qatar’s Assim Madibo. The incident led to a confrontation between Madibo and several Canadian players before the referee, after a VAR review, issued a straight red card to Madibo.

Canada’s coach, Jesse Marsch, described the sound of the injury as “the bone snap” and expressed the team’s collective concern, stating, “Your heart goes out to him. Everybody’s shaken for him.”

In a gesture of support, ten minutes after Koné’s injury, Nathan Saliba scored a free-kick goal for Canada and celebrated by holding up Koné’s No. 8 shirt.

Juventus and Canadian striker Jonathan David emphasized Koné’s importance to the squad, saying, “Koné means everything to this team. If you ask the same question to any guy on this team, they will tell you the same. He is someone that we love a lot.”

Koné underwent immediate surgery at a Vancouver hospital. His teammate Bombito visited him and later shared a photo of their meeting on Instagram, showcasing the strong bond within the Canadian team.
