Fiorentina defender Niccolò Fortini has been included in the Italian national team’s squad for their upcoming friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece.
This is a late addition to the squad, which is scheduled to depart for Luxembourg on Tuesday afternoon for their match on Wednesday evening. Following the Luxembourg fixture, the team will return to Florence for training at Coverciano before traveling to Greece on Sunday night.
Italy Explores New Player Talent
Interim coach Silvio Baldini, who has stepped up from the Under-21 team as the senior squad currently lacks a permanent head coach after Gennaro Gattuso’s resignation, initially named a 24-player roster. Last week, he invited four additional players to train with the team at Coverciano: Tommaso Berti from Cesena, Niccolò Fortini from Fiorentina, Gabriele Guarino from Empoli, and Dominic Vavassori from Atalanta.
It has now been confirmed that Fortini will remain with the squad and participate in both friendly matches, bringing the total number of players to 25.
A significant number of these players are uncapped. Baldini has opted to give opportunities to new faces, reflecting on a challenging season for the national team, which failed to qualify for the World Cup.
