Inter Milan has reportedly put forward a short-term contract renewal for Stefan de Vrij, as Francesco Acerbi may potentially remain in Serie A with Monza.
With the Scudetto and Coppa Italia Double secured this season, several players are facing expiring contracts on June 30. Among them are De Vrij and Acerbi, whose futures with the club are yet to be definitively settled.
Defenders’ Futures Uncertain
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Nerazzurri have submitted a proposal for De Vrij to continue at San Siro for another season. The Dutch international has been a part of Inter since 2018, having arrived on a free transfer from Lazio, and recently celebrated his 34th birthday in February.
Despite a history of injuries, the Netherlands international featured in 17 competitive matches during the current campaign. De Vrij is also considering other offers from clubs outside of Italy, and he will carefully evaluate all his options.
Meanwhile, Acerbi might be staying within Serie A next season, as Calciomercato reports that he has been approached by Monza. The club, which recently earned promotion through the play-offs, could benefit from his considerable experience. The 38-year-old Acerbi has expressed no intention of retiring yet and had previously been linked with a move to Al-Hilal, which would have reunited him with former Lazio and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. However, for personal lifestyle reasons, a move to Monza might be a more appealing prospect for him.
