Inter and Marotta Aim for Historic 10th Coppa Italia Triumph

Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta is optimistic about clinching both the Coppa Italia and the Double, as the club prepares for their Final against Lazio. The team is reportedly highly motivated for this crucial match, which kicks off at 20:00 UK time (21:00 CEST) at the Stadio Olimpico.

This 79th edition of the Coppa Italia Final could be decided within 90 minutes, or potentially go into extra time and even a penalty shootout.

While Inter are on the verge of celebrating a Double and a subsequent Scudetto parade, Lazio are battling to secure a Europa League spot and salvage their season with a victory.

Marotta Emphasizes Inter’s Ambition and Motivation

“Facing a Final is always a special and rewarding moment,” Marotta shared with Sport Mediaset. “We are dedicated to this competition and aspire to achieve our 10th Coppa Italia win, which would symbolically represent another star for the club. The squad is thoroughly motivated for this challenge.”

This marks Inter’s 16th appearance in the Coppa Italia Final, having won nine times and lost six. Their last victory was in 2023. A 10th Coppa Italia title would, in theory, allow Inter to add a silver star to their jersey, similar to how ten Serie A titles earn a permanent gold star.

“While there are no official regulations for such a recognition, it would be a symbolic star, a shining achievement,” Marotta explained.

The last time Inter achieved both the Coppa Italia and the Scudetto in the same season was in 2010, under Jose Mourinho, as part of their historic Treble-winning campaign.

“This group has been together for a considerable time, experiencing both triumphs and setbacks, which have significantly shaped their mentality. Motivation is paramount in football, and these players have matured through this journey, proving their ability to perform on the biggest stage.”

“The Scudetto rightfully belongs to Cristian Chivu and the entire squad. The coach has played a pivotal role in his debut season at a major club, demonstrating his quality and potential for further growth.”

“Overcoming established ‘provincial’ teams is a crucial step on the path to winning the title,” Marotta concluded.

Hakan Calhanoglu is unavailable due to injury but will be present on the Inter bench to support his teammates. Marcus Thuram, however, has recovered from a muscular issue and is set to start.
