Branson Golf Courses Dominate Missouri's Elite Rankings
Branson, Missouri, has firmly established itself as a premier golf destination, with a recent Golfweek "Best Courses by State" compilation highlighting its exceptional offerings. Ozarks National, Buffalo Ridge, Payne’s Valley, and Branson Hills claimed the top four spots in Missouri, respectively, while LedgeStone secured an impressive No. 8 ranking. This means five Branson courses are recognized among the state's top ten.
"Branson attracts visitors for numerous reasons, and our outstanding golf courses are certainly a major draw," stated Heather Hermen, Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. "Golf perfectly complements our beautiful lakes, vibrant live entertainment theaters, historic downtown area, family-friendly attractions, and the modern Branson Landing waterfront."
Golfweek determines its "Best" rankings through an annual evaluation by its course-ratings panel. Experts assess courses using ten criteria on a 10-point scale, submitting an overall rating for each. These individual overall ratings are then averaged to produce a cumulative score, which dictates the state rankings.
Among the standout courses are the 18-hole layouts at Big Cedar Golf: Ozarks National, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw; Buffalo Ridge, a collaboration between Tom Fazio and Johnny Morris; and Payne’s Valley, created by Tiger Woods and Beau Welling. Big Cedar Golf also offers three unique short courses: Cliffhangers (Johnny and J.P. Morris), Mountain Top (Gary Player), and Top of the Rock (Jack Nicklaus), all embodying the rustic elegance synonymous with properties owned and operated by Big Cedar Lodge and Bass Pro Shops Founder, Johnny Morris.
Beyond its No. 4 state ranking, Branson Hills (designed by Chuck Smith and Bobby Clampett) earned national recognition this year, placing No. 10 in Golfers’ Choice—a compilation of America’s favorite courses by GolfPass/GolfNow. Its challenging yet picturesque layout captivates players. LedgeStone, a local favorite, is renowned for its thrilling design that navigates the dramatic Ozarks terrain, demanding thoughtful shot strategy.
Branson's golfing landscape further includes Thousand Hills (Bob Cupp), The Pointe, and Holiday Hills. Thousand Hills, part of a comprehensive resort complex, is conveniently situated in the heart of the destination, close to numerous live entertainment venues.
All eleven courses are strategically located near one another, providing easy access to a wealth of dining options, diverse lodging, and a myriad of post-golf activities. Branson consistently receives high praise, regularly earning top-rated tourism destination status in America.
