Mancini Leaves 10 Italy Players for Special Training Ahead of Turkey Match
Ten Italy players, including Nicolò Barella, Honest Ahanor, and Gianluca Mancini, will undergo a focused training program in Coverciano over the next two days. They will not be available for Monday's match against Turkey.
Coach Roberto Mancini made the decision regarding the ten players who will miss the Turkey fixture.
The initial squad comprised 34 players. However, with only 23 players permitted for Nations League games, eleven had to be cut. Nicolò Zaniolo had already withdrawn on Saturday, leaving Mancini to exclude ten more.
The FIGC announced on Sunday morning that the following players will participate in a “specific training program” in Coverciano: Honest Ahanor, Nicolò Barella, Diego Coppola, Samuele Inacio, Eddy Kouadio, Daniel Maldini, Gianluca Mancini, Massimo Pessina, Samuele Ricci, and Mohamed Ali Zoma.
Barella, Coppola, and G. Mancini started against Belgium on Friday. Maldini and Zoma entered the game in the second half. Inacio, Kouadio, Ricci, and Pessina were already left out of the first match. Ahanor was on the bench against Belgium but did not play.
The FIGC stated that these ten players will work with some of Mancini’s staff who will also not travel to Turkey: Massimo Maccarone, Cristiano Lupatelli, Giulio Nuciari, and Luca Bossi.
The team departs for Bursa, Turkey, today. Mancini and an Italy player will hold a pre-match press conference at 17:15 CET (16:15 BST).
Following the match against Turkey, Italy is scheduled to play France away on October 2 and Turkey at home on October 5.
