Inter's Transfer Woes: Atletico Madrid Poised to Snatch Romero from Tottenham

Inter Milan is at serious risk of losing Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid because they cannot finalize new player acquisitions from Tottenham Hotspur until they first sell Benjamin Pavard, Davide Frattesi, or Kristjan Asllani.

The Nerazzurri achieved Scudetto and Coppa Italia success last season and have set their sights on improving their Champions League performance this term. However, reinforcements are proving difficult to secure.

The club has come close to finalizing several deals, only for them to fall apart. Chelsea outbid Inter for Marco Palestra, and Anan Khalaili subsequently failed his medical for a transfer from Union Saint-Gilloise.

Inter Can't Keep Romero Waiting Indefinitely

Multiple sources indicate that Inter has a verbal agreement with Tottenham for Romero at a €40 million fee. However, the transfer cannot proceed until personal terms are agreed upon and sales are made to generate the necessary funds.

This situation presents a major hurdle, especially as Atletico Madrid recently completed two player sales, sending Matteo Ruggeri to Aston Villa for approximately €18 million plus add-ons, and Nahuel Molina to Roma for €13 million plus add-ons.

Despite this, Inter still holds a potential advantage. Marca reports that Atletico Madrid's proposed offer for Romero stands at only €30 million, which is unlikely to be sufficient to convince Spurs.

The core issue remains Inter's inability to act due to the surplus of players still awaiting departure. Pavard has returned from his loan spell at Olympique Marseille and appears reluctant to accept further temporary transfers.

Asllani has not been part of Inter's plans for several months. He spent last season on loan at both Torino and Besiktas but failed to make a significant impression at either club.

The third player in a precarious position is Frattesi, whose future has been uncertain for the past two years, yet he has consistently remained at the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested a potential exchange deal with Juventus, involving Frattesi and Nico Gonzalez. Nottingham Forest has also expressed continued interest in Frattesi.
