Pre-season: Gladbach and Leverkusen Triumph Over Premier League Opponents

Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen concluded their pre-season campaigns with impressive victories over Premier League sides on Saturday, both securing wins by a 2-1 scoreline.

Eugen Polanski's Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated Europa League champions Aston Villa 2-1. Tim Kleindienst was the standout performer for Gladbach, scoring both goals in the first half, showcasing his readiness after a season hampered by injury. Aston Villa managed a consolation goal through John McGinn shortly after Alysson received a red card for a second booking. Several summer signings, including David Herold, Isac Lidberg, Daiki Hashioka, Enzo Leopold, and Jan Leszczynski, made their debut at Borussia-Park.

Notably, Nico Elvedi was absent from the squad as he is reportedly close to joining Leeds United, potentially to replace Sebastian Bornauw who is headed to HSV. Joe Scally, also rumored to be departing, featured for the final thirty minutes of the match.

Meanwhile, at St. James' Park, Bayer Leverkusen secured a 2-1 victory against Newcastle United. Leverkusen took an early lead with a goal from Ibrahim Maza in the first minute. Malik Tillman started the match for Leverkusen, despite reports from BILD suggesting the club is open to offers for the US international.
