Former England international Emile Heskey has voiced his opinion that Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones might be considering a summer departure. Heskey pointed to the midfielder’s contract situation as an indicator of a potential move. He drew a parallel with Scott McTominay’s successful transfer to Napoli, suggesting that a move to Italy’s Serie A could similarly revitalize Jones’s career.
Speaking to Live Football Tickets, with quotes relayed by FCInter1908, the ex-Liverpool and England forward provided an insightful perspective on the speculation surrounding Jones.
“I would be very surprised if he wasn’t pushing for a new contract,” Heskey stated. “So there is something that tells me they are not willing to offer him what he wants. Either they are not willing to offer him a new contract, or they are not willing to offer him what he desires.”

Heskey praised Jones’s qualities and ambitions, stating, “He aspires to become a regular starter for the England national team.” He elaborated, “He needs to play regularly, and I think he can become a regular for England, but he needs to play regularly at his club. Take Scott McTominay, he went to play in Italy and was praised for it. It really changed the way people see him as a footballer. I think Curtis has the ability to do that. He has great potential, he has leadership and he can play in different positions.”
McTominay’s career, which had seemed to be stagnating in the Premier League, experienced a significant turnaround following his move from Manchester United to Napoli. Since his arrival in Italy, McTominay has secured a Scudetto title and was recognized as the league’s MVP for the 2024/25 season.
Inter Milan is reportedly the leading club interested in signing Jones, who has one year remaining on his current contract with Liverpool.
