Following the exit of Vincenzo Italiano, Bologna has initiated its search for a new head coach. The club reportedly has two primary candidates in mind to fill the vacant position.
Key Contenders Emerge for Bologna’s Coaching Role
Bologna officially announced on Thursday that Vincenzo Italiano will no longer be their head coach after two seasons at the helm. Italiano had taken over from Thiago Motta and led the team into the 2024-25 Champions League. During his first season, he also secured the Coppa Italia, paving the way for a Europa League campaign in 2025-26.
Italiano departs the Rossoblu after the team finished eighth in Serie A for the 2025-26 season, narrowly missing out on European qualification by three points.
While Italiano had been rumored as a potential successor to Antonio Conte at Napoli, recent reports suggest that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has instead reached an agreement with Massimiliano Allegri for a two-year contract.
Meanwhile, Bologna is now considering potential replacements. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the leading candidates are currently Eusebio Di Francesco, currently with Lecce, and Domenico Tedesco, who most recently managed Fenerbahce.
