WTA Rouen Day 2: Predictions for Key Matches

The second day of the WTA Rouen Open promises exciting tennis action with eight matches scheduled in Northern France. We’re providing our predictions for every encounter, including Iryna Shymanovich vs. Linda Fruhvirotva, and assessing who will prevail under the roof at the Kindarena.

WTA Rouen Day 2 Match Predictions

Marta Kostyuk vs. Diane Parry

Head-to-Head: Kostyuk 3-0 Parry

While Diane Parry has a history of solid clay-court performances, she faces a significant challenge as the underdog in this match, even with the home crowd’s support. Marta Kostyuk, the top seed, has a perfect 3-0 record against Parry in their previous meetings, dropping only one set. The Ukrainian consistently competes at a higher level than Parry.

Although Kostyuk’s 2026 season has been modest with six wins out of ten matches so far, this fixture presents a prime opportunity for her to gain momentum. Parry is unlikely to pose a substantial enough obstacle to prevent her from doing so.

Prediction: Kostyuk in 2 sets.

Caty McNally vs. Katie Volynets

Head-to-Head: McNally 4-0 Volynets

On paper, this match appears evenly contested. However, the historical head-to-head record is heavily skewed in favor of Caty McNally, who has won all four previous encounters. While two of those matches went the distance and they haven’t faced each other since 2023, McNally’s dominance is hard to overlook. Katie Volynets has improved since then, but McNally has too, and remains the higher-ranked player. Expect a close contest, but McNally is likely to have the upper hand once again.

Prediction: McNally in 3 sets.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs. Alina Chareeva

Head-to-Head: Cocciaretto 1-0 Chareeva

Elisabetta Cocciaretto secured a straight-sets victory in their sole previous meeting, but given that match took place seven years ago, it’s not a decisive indicator. More relevant are the divergent career paths since then. Cocciaretto is now a consistent WTA Tour player and a two-time WTA singles title winner.

Chareeva has not achieved the same level of success, reflected in the significant gap in their rankings and career earnings. While Chareeva is nearing a top 100 debut, facing an in-form Cocciaretto on the Italian’s preferred surface makes it difficult to envision Chareeva emerging victorious.

Prediction: Cocciaretto in 2 sets.

Hailey Baptiste vs. Jessika Ponchet

Head-to-Head: First meeting

Jessika Ponchet might feel confident given Hailey Baptiste’s less-than-ideal clay-court form. However, Baptiste will still present a significant challenge. She has found recent form, notably reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA Miami Open after defeating three seeded players. Furthermore, her fourth-round appearance at Roland Garros last year demonstrates her growing proficiency on clay, and the indoor conditions should benefit her. If Ponchet plays her absolute best and can energize the crowd, an upset is possible. Nevertheless, a Baptiste victory remains the more probable outcome.

Prediction: Baptiste in 2 sets.
