Will Dybala Shine in the 2026-27 Superclasico After a Potential Move to Boca Juniors?

Recent speculation suggests that Paulo Dybala might be set to transfer from Roma to Boca Juniors in the upcoming summer. If this move materializes, “La Joya” could become a pivotal figure to watch in the highly anticipated Superclasico clashes against River Plate during the 2026-27 season.

Dybala’s current contract with Roma is slated to expire at the season’s end. It’s an open secret that the Argentine star, a decorated 2022 World Cup winner, has long harbored a desire to play for Boca Juniors.

Such a transfer to Boca Juniors’ iconic Bombonera stadium would undoubtedly have a significant impact, particularly on betting markets for the Superclasico. Dybala has consistently been recognized as one of Serie A’s and Europe’s standout performers over the past decade.

Throughout his career in Italy’s top flight, representing Palermo, Juventus, and Roma, the dynamic attacker has netted an impressive 131 goals in 366 appearances in Serie A.

His most recent season at the Stadio Olimpico has unfortunately been hampered by injuries, restricting him to just 23 appearances across all competitions and yielding three goals.

Despite these challenges, reports indicate that Roma’s coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, is keen to retain the Argentine’s services for at least another season, with the club reportedly preparing to offer him a new contract.

Dybala joined Roma on a free transfer from Juventus in the summer of 2022 and has since scored 45 goals in 136 games for the Giallorossi.

Gasperini has frequently lauded Dybala’s contributions this campaign, particularly in the initial stages when the Argentine was utilized as a false nine before the arrival of Donyell Malen. The coach noted in late December 2025, “Playing as an attacking midfielder can become complicated when he faces physical difficulties, as we have unfortunately experienced during this period.”

He added, “I have always hoped to have him and have relied on him because the team’s strength increases when he plays in that position. The entire attack benefits. It’s rare to find another player of [Dybala’s] caliber. When he has problems, there are truly no direct replacements.”

Dybala himself has recently expressed his strong desire to play for Boca Juniors in the future, which would allow him to reunite with his friend and former teammate Leandro Paredes.

“It would be fantastic,” he commented, as reported by SportMediaset. “Today I play for Roma, and I must defend this shirt, but you never know what might happen.”

Dybala’s senior club career has been confined to Argentina and Italy. He progressed through the youth academy of Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba before making his move to Palermo in 2012.
