Scudetto Stars: Five Key Figures in Inter’s Serie A Triumph

Despite facing challenges, Inter Milan rightfully earned the Serie A title. Giancarlo Rinaldi awards performance ratings to some of the crucial individuals in their championship-winning campaign.

While it might be an oversimplification to suggest the Italian league title was secured by New Year’s Day, there’s a significant element of truth to that statement. Inter ascended to the top of the standings shortly after the Christmas break and maintained their lead without significant threats. While their competitors faltered, the Nerazzurri demonstrated their dominance on the domestic front, signaling a potential period of sustained success unless other major clubs improve or new contenders emerge. Here are the evaluations of some of the most pivotal figures in Inter’s 21st Scudetto triumph.

Inter’s 2025-26 Serie A Title Win: The Most Influential Figures

Christian Chivu: 7.5/10

Following Simone Inzaghi was a considerable challenge, and initially, it appeared the Romanian might struggle with the task. Early losses to Juventus and Napoli suggested he was capable against weaker opponents but perhaps still developing against top-tier teams. While this pattern persisted to some extent throughout the season, it wasn’t enough to derail their charge to the summit. A significant victory against Como indicated their serious intent, and they set a formidable pace. Despite disappointing performances in Europe and the Italian Supercup, with a potential domestic double within reach, thanks to a Coppa Italia final against Lazio, he undoubtedly deserves more than a passing grade.

Federico Dimarco: 9/10

While fans of the Italian national team might disagree, this was an unforgettable season for the dynamic fullback at the club level. He was already an exceptional attacking threat for his team, but his 18 assists this season – the most ever recorded in Serie A since official records began – elevated him to a new level. It’s no surprise that Marcus Thuram felt compelled to acknowledge his teammate’s brilliance after setting up yet another goal. With a few goals of his own added to his assist tally, and considering the prolonged absence of his counterpart, Denzel Dumfries, due to injury, Dimarco was undoubtedly one of the primary architects of Inter’s success.

Manuel Akanji: 7.5/10

There’s a prevailing notion that defenders moving from the Premier League can find it challenging to adapt to the Italian game. However, the Swiss international seemed to navigate this transition with relative ease. He quickly established himself as a reliable presence on Chivu’s flank, much like he had done previously at Manchester City. He undoubtedly made the most significant impact among the new signings at the club, and it’s perhaps unsurprising that speculation suggests he and Yann Bisseck could become the preferred central defensive pairing for the foreseeable future.

Lautaro Martinez: 8/10

Even when operating in a rotational capacity, he remained an indispensable component of this Scudetto-winning side, both from the touchline, where he directed instructions, and on the pitch, where he showcased his skills. His goal tally, despite dealing with injuries, only tells part of his story. A more significant aspect lies in his contribution to overall team play. He is simply one of the best link-up forwards in the business, capable of both scoring goals and creating opportunities for others. The Nerazzurri will be fervently hoping to retain his services and that he experiences a season free from injury.

Francesco Pio Esposito: 7/10

Although he didn’t feature extensively or play full matches, he was undoubtedly a bright spark in this campaign. At a club more renowned for its seasoned veterans than its young talent, he offered a refreshing change. His attitude, effort, and eagerness to learn helped him navigate periods when more experienced teammates were sidelined. In an era where opportunities for young Italians are scarce, especially at a title-contending team, this marks a promising first step in what is hoped to be a long and successful career.
