Serie A Relegation Battle: Lecce and Cremonese Face Final Showdown

Lecce and Cremonese both secured crucial away victories, leaving just one point between them heading into the final matchday of Serie A. This narrow margin means a relegation play-out is still a possibility for the two teams fighting to avoid dropping to Serie B.

Meanwhile, Cagliari has officially guaranteed their Serie A status after a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against Torino.

The point difference between Cremonese in the relegation zone and Lecce remains unchanged going into the penultimate round of fixtures.

Serie A Safety Still Wide Open

Jamie Vardy’s solitary goal was enough to give Cremonese a 1-0 away victory over Udinese. Lecce, on the other hand, had to endure a dramatic finish, securing a 3-2 win against Sassuolo with a goal in the 96th minute.

Walid Cheddira had scored twice for Lecce, but Sassuolo fought back with goals from Armand Laurienté and an Andrea Pinamonti back-heel flick. However, deep into stoppage time, Nikola Stulic capitalized on an Omri Gandelman knockdown to score the winner.

This thrilling conclusion sets up an intense final 90 minutes of the season.

If Cremonese draws their home match against Como and Lecce loses their game against Genoa, both teams would finish with 35 points. This would force a two-legged relegation play-out.

Lecce controls its own destiny; a victory at home against Genoa would secure their safety in Serie A.

The situation is particularly challenging for Cremonese, as their final opponents, Como, are still competing for a Champions League spot, indicating a tough final match for Cremonese.

All final-day matches, including Cremonese vs. Como and Lecce vs. Genoa, along with Milan vs. Cagliari, Torino vs. Juventus, and Verona vs. Roma, will be played simultaneously.
