Rasmus Hojlund has officially confirmed that the mandatory purchase clause in his Napoli contract has been activated, severing his ties with Manchester United. “It feels strange saying goodbye, as I’ve felt like a Napoli player for the past year,” Hojlund stated.
The striker’s goal in Napoli’s recent 3-0 victory over Pisa in Serie A was a significant moment, not only securing Champions League football for his current team next season but also triggering the buy-out clause. This development makes his move to Napoli permanent.
Hojlund initially joined Napoli on loan last summer from Manchester United, with a clause for a permanent transfer. Under the agreement, Napoli committed to a €6 million loan fee and a potential €44 million permanent deal.
Expressing his gratitude and farewell to Manchester United supporters on social media, Hojlund shared, “This goal felt symbolic because it signifies two things. We’ve secured Champions League football with Napoli, which means, due to my contract, I am now officially a Napoli player. Saying goodbye to Manchester United feels strange, as I’ve felt like a Napoli player for the past year.”
He further added, “The support you fans have shown me, making me feel at home and helping me regain my confidence, is something I am incredibly grateful for. Bidding farewell to Manchester United also carries emotional weight. My childhood dream of playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey came true. Today’s goal symbolizes a fresh, confident start, where I will dedicate everything to Napoli and express my thanks to all the fans, players, and staff at Manchester United who helped make my childhood dream a reality. It’s time for new dreams, and I’m ready to chase them.”
This season, Hojlund has impressively scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 32 Serie A appearances. He also contributed three goals in seven Champions League matches and one in the Supercoppa Italiana.
