Monza has earned a swift return to Italy’s top football division, Serie A, for the 2026-27 season by triumphing in the Serie B play-offs. This victory completes the roster of teams for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
The promotion was clinched after a two-legged play-off final against Catanzaro, which concluded on Friday night. Although Monza secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg and then suffered a 2-0 defeat in the return fixture, the aggregate score was tied. However, Monza secured their place in Serie A due to their superior league standing, finishing third compared to Catanzaro’s fifth.
Earlier in May, Monza overcame fifth-placed Catanzaro in the semi-finals. They drew the first leg 2-2 and went on to win the second leg 2-1.
This marks an immediate return to the top flight for Monza, who were relegated at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
They will join Venezia, the 2025-26 Serie B champions, and runners-up Frosinone as the newly promoted clubs in Serie A.
