Luka Modric has extended his gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging that AC Milan’s season concluded on a disappointing note. The former Ballon d’Or winner is currently contemplating his next career move following the team’s failure to secure Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2025-26 season.
Modric Reflects on a Season of Ups and Downs
“This season brought both wonderful and challenging moments,” Modric shared in a recent Instagram post. “Ultimately, we must confront the difficult reality and accept that it did not conclude as we had hoped.”
“From the depths of my heart, I want to thank all the AC Milan supporters for the love, respect, and incredible backing they have shown me throughout the entire season. Forza Milan.”

At the age of 40, Modric proved to be a significant asset in Serie A. However, with considerable uncertainty surrounding the club’s direction at San Siro, there is an increasing likelihood that the former Real Madrid star might depart after only one season.
Modric signed a one-year deal with Milan last summer, which included an option for a further 12-month extension. Nevertheless, the absence of Champions League football in the 2026-27 season, coupled with the current lack of a head coach, sporting director, technical director, and CEO, makes it an uphill battle for the Rossoneri to retain the six-time Champions League winner, especially with numerous offers and potential coaching roles available elsewhere.
Modric has not yet definitively announced his plans regarding playing in the 2026-27 season.
Reports from Saturday suggest that Real Madrid may offer Modric a coaching or directorial position should he decide to retire this summer.
