Luka Modric’s Future: Hinting at Milan Farewell and Real Madrid Return

Luka Modric has not yet finalized his plans for the upcoming season, but is subtly suggesting a potential retirement following his tenure at Milan. There are indications that he might return to Real Madrid in a directorial role.

The veteran midfielder joined San Siro last summer as a free agent, concluding a long and distinguished career with Real Madrid. Throughout his time with Milan, he has proven that he still possesses the quality to make a significant impact on the field.

In 37 competitive appearances, Modric contributed two goals and three assists. His season was primarily affected by an impact injury that resulted in a facial fracture sustained during a collision with Juventus player Manuel Locatelli.

However, the undeniable passage of time is a factor, and with his 41st birthday approaching in September, Modric is carefully considering his next career move.

Modric Appears Ready to Conclude Playing Career

Retirement is a strong possibility for the Croatian star. Modric has been dropping subtle hints that his spell at Milan may be coming to an end.

Firstly, he posted a message on Instagram expressing his gratitude to the Milan supporters for the current season. This message was left open-ended, leaving ambiguity as to whether it was a simple thank you or a farewell.

Furthermore, his Instagram Stories featured an image of him embracing Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, accompanied by two white hearts, symbolizing the club’s colors.

Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport now suggest that Modric could make a return to Real Madrid, where he played from 2012 to 2025, in a directorial capacity.

This potential move could see him reunited with Jose Mourinho, who is also rumored to be on his way back to the Bernabeu.
