Juventus Honors Alexander Manninger: A Tribute to a Man of Rare Values

Juventus has expressed profound sorrow and paid tribute to their former goalkeeper, Alexander Manninger, who tragically passed away at the age of 48 in a car accident in Austria. The club remembered Manninger as “a man of rare values” and a great athlete whose legacy of humility, dedication, and exceptional professionalism will be long remembered.

The Bianconeri took to social media to share their condolences hours after the news of Manninger’s death broke. A social media post from Juventus stated, “Today is a very sad day. We have lost not only a great athlete but a man of rare values: humility, dedication, and an exceptional sense of professionalism. Alex Manninger will be remembered for the example he set, on and off the pitch. Juventus expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Alex Manninger and stands close to his family in this moment of grief.”

Manninger was a part of the Juventus squad that clinched the Serie A title in the 2011-12 season. He spent four seasons with the Turin giants, accumulating 40 appearances and celebrating the Scudetto in his final year under Antonio Conte.

His career in Italy also saw him play for Torino, Siena, Bologna, and Fiorentina, where he amassed 137 appearances in Serie A. Prior to his time in Italy, Manninger had a successful stint in England, winning the Premier League title with Arsenal in the 1997-98 season. He also represented Austria internationally.

In a poignant reminder of his connection to Italian football, Manninger had recently given an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport. In it, he spoke of his strong bond with Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon and referred to Siena as his “home.”
