Inter Milan is reportedly preparing to acknowledge Cristian Chivu’s successful first season at the helm by offering him an extended contract through to 2028, accompanied by a pay raise.
The 45-year-old’s inaugural campaign as Nerazzurri manager proved to be an outstanding success, leading the team to the Serie A title with three matches remaining. He is now focused on the upcoming Coppa Italia Final against Lazio.
Chivu stepped into the head coach role last summer with minimal preparation time, taking over shortly before the Club World Cup after Simone Inzaghi’s departure. He inherited a squad that had finished the preceding season without any silverware.
Chivu Highly Valued by Inter
Inter President Beppe Marotta has consistently expressed his desire for Chivu to remain with the club long-term and is prepared to back this sentiment with concrete action.
According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Chivu has been presented with a new contract proposal that will add one year to his current deal, extending his tenure to June 2028.
Crucially, this new agreement will see his annual salary rise from €2.1 million to €3 million.
Remarkably, this season marks Chivu’s first full term as a senior team coach. He previously managed Parma for the final 13 games of the 2024-2025 season, having spent the years prior coaching within Inter’s youth academy from 2018 to 2024.
