Inter President Marotta: ‘We Believe in Evolution, Not Revolution’ for the Squad’s Future

Inter President Beppe Marotta has stated that the club’s approach to strengthening the squad for the future is focused on “evolution and not revolution.” He emphasizes that the current Double-winning season was achieved by building on existing foundations, a strategy that will continue going forward.

The Nerazzurri are set to celebrate with an open-top bus parade following their Scudetto triumph and their 10th Coppa Italia victory, secured by a 2-0 win against Lazio. This marks their first Double since the historic 2010 Treble season under Jose Mourinho.

Despite an unexpected end to the previous season without silverware and a relatively inexperienced coach in Cristian Chivu, Inter has achieved significant success. Marotta attributes this to the collective effort of the entire club, from players to management and behind-the-scenes staff.

“There is a team on the field and one off it too, made up of the management and all those who work behind the scenes for the club, so I want to thank all of them tonight. It really is a team sport and everyone gave their contribution,” Marotta told Sport Mediaset.

He highlighted the consistent positive results in recent years, attributing them to the club’s ownership and a winning model. While acknowledging the disappointment of last season and a few regrets in the Champions League this term, Marotta also gave credit to their opponents.

Looking ahead, Inter is reportedly planning for future transfers, but the core philosophy remains to build upon the current team’s strengths. Marotta expressed optimism, stating, “We believe in evolution and not revolution, so young players like Petar Sucic require time to get settled and develop.”

The club aims to continue identifying and nurturing talented young players, integrating them with experienced individuals who possess a winning mentality. Marotta stressed that significant overhaul is unnecessary. “Unfortunately, some players are coming to the end of their contracts, and this is a physiological issue, we cannot fight time. We are ready to again gradually introduce young players, there is no need for a revolution,” he concluded.

Several players, including Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Yann Sommer, and Matteo Darmian, are nearing the end of their contracts with Inter, presenting a natural opportunity for gradual squad renewal.
