Francesco Totti Could Return to Roma with Gian Piero Gasperini’s Support

There are indications that AS Roma icon Francesco Totti might be making a comeback to the club in a new directorial capacity. This potential return is reportedly being facilitated by coach Gian Piero Gasperini and patron Ryan Friedkin.

Totti, a lifelong supporter of AS Roma, dedicated his entire playing career to the club, becoming an emblematic figure. After retiring from professional football in 2017, he briefly served on the club’s staff before departing in 2019. At the time, he expressed a feeling of being undervalued, believing he was treated as a mere figurehead without sufficient influence.

Gasperini Advocates for Totti’s Reintegration

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gian Piero Gasperini has put forward the idea of bringing Totti back into the fold. This proposal comes as the club is set to welcome Tony D’Amico as the new sporting director, following his departure from Atalanta.

The Friedkin family had previously extended an offer to Totti to serve as a Centenary Ambassador for 2027. However, Gasperini is now pushing for a more substantial and influential role for Totti behind the scenes.

Gasperini’s belief is that the former iconic number 10 could act as a crucial link between the playing squad and the directorial staff, thereby fostering greater unity within the club. This role was initially envisioned for Claudio Ranieri, but his disagreements with Gasperini led to his dismissal before the end of his tenure.
