Spalletti Praises Juventus' Attitude in Chelsea Victory

Luciano Spalletti highlighted the positive aspects of Juventus' 1-0 victory over Chelsea, noting the team's strong attitude and unity throughout the match. He also provided an update on Kenan Yildiz's fitness and explained the decision to substitute Jonathan David, stating that the player "couldn't do more" at that point.

In their friendly match in Hong Kong, Juventus, with only one new signing, Zeki Celik, in the starting lineup, appeared to be some way off their competitive form for the upcoming season. Nevertheless, they secured a 1-0 win against Chelsea, with Edon Zhegrova scoring the decisive goal. The team also managed another clean sheet in their pre-season campaign.

Spalletti Observes Improvement in Juventus

"We managed to maintain team unity throughout the entire game, both when we were under pressure and during counter-attacks," Spalletti shared with Sky Sport Italia. "Our attitude was one of solidarity. Chelsea are a team that knows how to do everything – build from the back, finish well, and attack with pace. It was crucial that we didn't back down from them."

Kenan Yildiz, who has been dealing with a recurring knee issue for several months, came off the bench to assist Zhegrova's goal. "He's a very important player for us. We are carefully managing his playing time as part of a planned strategy. The good news is that he no longer feels pain and is smiling," Spalletti added.

"Zhegrova scored a fantastic goal, but what was most significant was his overall performance and attitude during the match. While he did lose possession a few times, he also demonstrated his capabilities when the ball was at his feet. A player must always strive to improve and become stronger."

The substitution of Jonathan David at halftime, only to be taken off again after 30 minutes, raised some eyebrows. "It's August, and we need to make numerous substitutions, including strategic ones," the coach explained. "I gave debuts to two young players and had David on the field for 30 minutes. At this moment, he couldn't contribute any further. I felt it was best to bring him on at halftime when the game was still more dynamic."

Randal Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic recently joined the squad from Paris Saint-Germain and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively, with further reinforcements expected. "As I've stated previously, I have a very good relationship with the club. We have discussed our needs, and they are working diligently to achieve the best possible outcomes," Spalletti concluded.
