Inter coach Cristian Chivu has declared that tonight’s Coppa Italia semi-final clash against Como will be an “all or nothing” encounter, as the team is determined to secure a place in the final and pursue the Double this season.
The match, scheduled to kick off at San Siro at 20:00 UK time (21:00 CEST), is the decider after the first leg ended in a goalless draw at Como on March 3. If the score remains tied after 90 minutes, the game will proceed to extra time and potentially a penalty shootout.
The winner of this tie will advance to the Coppa Italia Final on May 13, where they will face either Atalanta or Lazio.
Chivu Ready for Inter-Como Battle
“This is one of our objectives, and we understand the importance of this game. We will give our absolute best. The tie is level at 0-0, so it’s truly an ‘all or nothing’ situation today, with a Final as the ultimate prize,” Chivu stated to Sport Mediaset.
He anticipates a challenging match for both sides, noting Como’s tactical astuteness and versatility, qualities that have been evident in their previous encounters.
In their Serie A meeting on April 12 at the Stadio Sinigaglia, Inter mounted a remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over Como, extending their lead at the top of the league table to 12 points.
While Denzel Dumfries was a key contributor with two goals in that league fixture, he will be on the bench tonight, with Luis Henrique starting in his place.
With a comfortable 12-point advantage in Serie A, Inter remains on track for a potential Double of the Scudetto and Coppa Italia titles in the same season.
“Our intention from the beginning was to establish consistency in our work, to be competitive throughout the campaign, and to position ourselves to achieve significant goals in the latter stages of the season,” Chivu added. “We have reached that point, we are here, and we will fight until the very end.”
