Atletico Madrid Unlikely to Make Nico Gonzalez’s Juventus Loan Permanent

Nicolas Gonzalez is anticipated to return to Juventus this summer, as Atletico Madrid is not expected to activate the clause that would make his transfer permanent.

The winger joined Atletico on loan until June 2026 for an initial fee of €1 million, with potential bonuses. The agreement included an obligation to buy for €32 million, payable in installments, contingent on specific conditions being met during the season.

One of these conditions pertains to appearances, requiring Gonzalez to participate in at least 60% of matches for a minimum of 45 minutes. Due to a combination of injuries and player rotation, it is now unlikely that this threshold will be met, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Despite this, Atletico has been pleased with the player’s performances when he has been available. However, instead of triggering the original purchase clause, the Spanish club is reportedly looking to negotiate a reduced transfer fee.

Gonzalez was one of Juventus’ most significant investments last summer, with the Bianconeri spending over €28 million to secure him before deciding to loan him out. His departure created space for new attacking players, such as Edon Zhegrova.

Currently, the situation remains uncertain, but a return to Turin appears to be the most probable outcome unless Atletico can reach a new agreement with Juventus in the upcoming months.
