Fiorentina is actively seeking a new head coach, and Thiago Motta has recently joined the list of potential candidates, following earlier mentions of Maurizio Sarri and Fabrizio Grosso by director Fabio Paratici.
Under the guidance of Paolo Vanoli, who took over when the team was at the bottom of the Serie A standings, Fiorentina has managed to climb out of the relegation zone and now holds an eight-point advantage over the bottom three teams. However, it is widely anticipated that Vanoli’s tenure will not extend beyond the current season, as the club has more ambitious plans for the upcoming term.
Fiorentina Considers Thiago Motta Among Coaching Options
Fabrizio Grosso, the current Sassuolo coach, remains a leading contender for the position, with various Italian news outlets identifying him as the ideal candidate. Maurizio Sarri is also considered a strong possibility, particularly given his reported difficulties with the Lazio hierarchy. A move for Sarri would also represent a return to his roots, as he grew up in close proximity to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
According to Calciomercato, Thiago Motta has emerged as a new option. Motta has been on a sabbatical this season following his dismissal by Juventus in March 2025. His prior coaching experience includes spells at Genoa, Spezia, and notably Bologna, where he successfully guided the team to Champions League qualification.
