Spalletti: Juventus Must Be Wary of Milan in Top 4 Race

Luciano Spalletti has advised Juventus to remain vigilant in their draw against Milan, emphasizing that the competition for a Champions League position will be a close contest until the very end.

The Bianconeri missed a significant opportunity to surpass Milan for third place. However, they also acknowledged the persistent challenge from Como and Roma in the pursuit of a Champions League spot.

Khephren Thuram initially found the net, but his goal was disallowed due to an offside position. For the home team, Alexis Saelemaekers came closest to scoring when his shot struck the crossbar.

Spalletti Emphasized Caution for Juventus

Spalletti commented on his team’s performance, stating to DAZN Italia, “We continued our journey, we attempted to take the initiative, albeit a bit too slowly and predictably in the first half. We never managed to break through their players, so they were always in position.”

“You have to be wary of Milan because you might feel you have complete control, and then they suddenly surge forward with three or four players, making it difficult for you. The danger arises when you feel comfortable against them.”

“When building from the back, we worked on preventative marking to ensure those counter-attacks were thwarted. There were a few situations where we could have performed better, including a foul on Jonathan David, but it was overlooked.”

This incident involved a challenge near the edge of the penalty area, which the referee allowed to continue. Nevertheless, it was generally considered another solid performance from the Canadian player.

“If there isn’t a lot of physical contact, he can escape duels with his technical skill, but if he’s pressed physically, he struggles more. He covers so much ground; you can’t question his dynamism. Constantly pressing Modric, Gabbia, and Maignan, he delivers results. Naturally, he’s not someone who can sprint or beat defenders one-on-one, but when collaborating with the team, he’s perfect for that role.”

“We needed to create more density in support to assist him, as today, especially in the first half, we left him a bit too isolated,” Spalletti added.

Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz both entered the game in the final minutes, as they were dealing with injury concerns.

“When the team had more control in the second half and pushed Milan back, Vlahovic’s presence could have been beneficial, but he only returned to team training on Friday. Kenan also struggled when he had to make two changes of pace; you could tell he wasn’t in great shape.

“With Vlahovic, he was recovering from a very long injury. He got hurt last time while warming up on the touchline, so we cannot rush him. The future also depends on the present, so we cannot take unnecessary risks.”

This 0-0 draw echoes the previous encounter between the two teams earlier this season, where Christian Pulisic missed a penalty in Turin.

Both Roma and Como now trail Juventus by just three points, leaving the race for Champions League qualification wide open with four rounds remaining.

“I believe it will go down to the wire, or very close to it, because these are the games that matter. Roma and Como won, so we still have quite a few matches left to win before we can truly deserve our place in that tournament,” Spalletti concluded.

“It’s time for the final sprint, and it’s at this stage that the fatigue from a long season starts to set in. That’s where you can tell who truly belongs at Juventus and who doesn’t.

“We must uphold the culture of self-discipline, hard work, and determination that defines this club, giving our all every day and letting nothing go unaddressed.”

Juve extended their unbeaten streak to eight Serie A matches, notably conceding only one goal in their last seven league games, during their 1-1 draw with Sassuolo.
