Rudiger Set to Extend Real Madrid Contract, Ending Juventus Transfer Speculation

Antonio Rüdiger is reportedly on the verge of signing a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid, a move that effectively ends Juventus’s aspirations of acquiring the German center-back on a free transfer this summer. Spanish media outlets report that Rüdiger has agreed to the club’s offer, despite his initial preference for a two-year deal. He ultimately accepted Real Madrid’s policy of offering only annual renewals to players of his age bracket.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, Rüdiger has been a consistent starter, overcoming injury concerns to remain a pivotal player for Real Madrid. He has also reportedly turned down a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia to remain in the Spanish capital.

This development represents a significant setback for Juventus, who are understood to have been in discussions with the defender since March. Manager Luciano Spalletti, a long-time admirer of Rüdiger from their time together at Roma (2015-2017), had been advocating for a three-year contract worth €5-6 million per season.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United had also shown interest in Rüdiger. However, Manchester United’s pursuit was reportedly waning due to ongoing talks regarding Harry Maguire’s contract extension.

Rüdiger is now expected to be a key component of the defense under incoming manager José Mourinho, alongside Dean Huijsen and Éder Militão. The departure of David Alaba has been confirmed, while the future of Raúl Asensio remains uncertain.
