Ruben Amorim Chooses Milan Over Benfica

Ruben Amorim is set to take the helm as the new head coach of AC Milan. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the agreement is essentially finalized, with legal teams from both AC Milan and Amorim’s representatives exchanging necessary documentation in anticipation of a formal announcement. The contract is expected to span two years, with a provision for an extension that could see him remain with the club until 2029.

Sources, as reported by MilanNews.it, indicate that the Portuguese manager declined an offer from Benfica, choosing instead to commit to the project at AC Milan. This decision highlights the strong commitment and conviction with which Amorim is approaching this new role.

“Amorim is very convinced,” Romano stated. “He said no to other offers, including the one from Benfica, and strongly wanted Milan.”

Milan’s Swift Action Sidesteps Glasner and Jaissle

Fabrizio Romano also addressed speculation regarding other managerial candidates, clarifying that reports of an agreement with Oliver Glasner were inaccurate.

“Glasner has not spoken with Milan since the famous meeting in Munich; Milan disappeared and never made contact again,” he explained.

Matthias Jaissle was also left in an uncertain situation, having received no updates from the club as of the morning before the Amorim deal was concluded.

A key factor in Milan’s decisive move was Amorim’s availability. Having been dismissed by Manchester United in January, he did not require any compensation. In contrast, securing Jaissle’s release from Al-Ahli would have entailed a significant financial outlay for Milan, estimated at €10-11 million.
