Roberto Mancini Still in Contention for Italy Coaching Role

Despite Antonio Conte being the leading candidate, reports from Italy indicate that Roberto Mancini is still considered for the vacant Italy coaching position.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is expected to announce its decision regarding a new coach following the Presidential election on June 22, 2026.

Potential Candidates for the Italy Job Include Mancini and Allegri

While Pep Guardiola is reportedly the “dream” candidate for the role, his ten-year tenure with Manchester City is ending, making him a distant possibility.

Antonio Conte is currently the frontrunner, as he is also set to depart his club at the conclusion of the current season.

Both Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport have named Mancini among the prominent contenders. Corriere dello Sport suggests that the former Azzurri coach might even agree to a salary of approximately €2 million per season to return to the Coverciano training center.

Other individuals linked with the position include Claudio Ranieri and AC Milan’s coach Massimiliano Allegri. Allegri’s future at Milan is reportedly uncertain due to reported disagreements with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giorgio Furlani.

Mancini led Italy to a European Championship victory in 2021 but failed to qualify for the subsequent World Cup. He resigned in August 2023 to manage the Saudi Arabia national team, a role he held for less than a year before leaving in October 2024.

Recently, Mancini secured the Qatari league title with Al Sadd, celebrating his latest success with a gesture reminiscent of his Euro triumph with Italy.
