Milan’s fervent supporters are preparing a significant demonstration before Sunday’s match against Atalanta, with reports suggesting that CEO Giorgio Furlani might lead to the departures of both coach Max Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare.
The match is scheduled to commence at San Siro on Sunday at 19:45 UK time (20:45 CEST).
AC Milan is currently in a tight race to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, a goal that seemed within reach until a recent dip in their performance. This downturn has fueled frustration among the ultras, who are determined to express their discontent during the upcoming game.
The planned protest follows a petition signed by thousands of fans calling for CEO Furlani’s dismissal. However, Furlani’s track record of generating profits through player sales is likely to earn him continued backing from owner Gerry Cardinale.
Furlani Consolidating Power at Milan
“The discontent runs deep,” commented journalist Luca Serafini to MilanNews. “Accusations against Furlani range from his excessive involvement in the transfer market, decisions that conflicted with Tare’s strategy, a lack of clear communication, a focus on financial viability that has sidelined sporting aspirations, to the dismantling of the organized fanbase.”
The ultras are particularly angered by increased ticket prices and the cumbersome bureaucracy associated with new security measures.
While the Milan fans may be hoping for Cardinale to hold Furlani accountable, media speculation indicates that the CEO is set to strengthen his influence over the club’s decision-making processes. According to MilanNews, both coach Allegri and sporting director Tare could be on their way out just a year after their respective appointments.
In anticipation of potential changes, AC Milan is reportedly considering Atalanta’s director Tony D’Amico and Bologna’s coach Vincenzo Italiano as potential replacements.
