Italian coach Enzo Maresca has stated that he feels “ready for the next chapter” of his career, which could potentially lead him to Manchester City. Maresca, who previously managed Chelsea, mentioned, “We’ll see what happens.”
The 46-year-old tactician led Chelsea to a Club World Cup title last year, defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the USA to secure the silverware. However, following disagreements with the Chelsea hierarchy, his tenure at Stamford Bridge concluded on January 1st.
Maresca is now being widely discussed as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, should Guardiola decide to depart. Maresca appeared on Sky Sport Italia and expressed his eagerness to return to coaching after a five-month break.
Maresca Eager to Get Back to Work
“I feel ready for the next chapter, that is the most important thing,” the Italian coach commented.
When questioned directly about the Manchester City rumors, Maresca did not dismiss them. “What matters, regardless of the club, is being ready. There are only a few weeks left until the end of the season, then we’ll see what happens.”
His strong connection to the Manchester City job stems from his previous role as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola during the 2022-23 campaign. Prior to that, he was involved with their youth academy from 2020 to 2021.
Maresca’s coaching experience includes a brief spell at Parma in Serie A for 14 games in 2021. He then guided Leicester City to promotion in the 2023-24 season before taking the Chelsea position the following summer.
Another potential opportunity for Maresca could be the Napoli job, should Antonio Conte depart at the end of the current season.
