Juventus is reportedly exploring options beyond their pursuit of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, with Benfica’s talented centre-back Antonio Silva also on their radar. According to Portuguese publication A Bola, the Italian club has held a long-standing and serious interest in the 22-year-old defender.
Reports from December 2024, confirmed by agent Jorge Mendes, indicated a mutual desire between Antonio Silva and Juventus for a transfer, with the final decision resting with Benfica. While Benfica’s president, Rui Costa, blocked the move at the time, the circumstances have reportedly shifted in Juventus’s favor.
Antonio Silva Open to Juventus Transfer After Difficult Season
The Portugal international is said to be increasingly dissatisfied with his role at Benfica, having spent a significant portion of the season as the third-choice centre-back. Contract renewal negotiations have reportedly stalled due to the player’s unhappiness with the process and a demand for sporting assurances that Benfica are currently unable to provide, particularly with uncertainty surrounding their coaching situation for the upcoming season.
Despite Benfica’s intention to renew his contract, which extends until 2027, and a potential offer of around €2 million net per season, financial incentives alone may not be enough to convince the player.
Newcastle United’s previous offer of €35 million plus €15 million in bonuses for the defender in 2024 was rejected. However, given his reduced game time this season, replicating such a valuation might prove challenging.
For Juventus, acquiring Antonio Silva would address a clear need in their defensive lineup. His potential arrival would also complement their ongoing efforts to sign Bernardo Silva, whom they hope to secure on a free transfer from Manchester City. This potential free transfer, however, remains contingent on Juventus securing Champions League qualification in their final league match of the season.
