Italy Secures Seven European Spots for Next Season

It has been officially confirmed that Italy will have seven teams participating in European club competitions next season. Serie A will send four teams to the Champions League, two to the Europa League, and one to the Conference League.

With all Italian representatives now eliminated from current UEFA tournaments, their European coefficient cannot be further improved, nor can any team secure additional qualification by winning a trophy.

The elimination of Bologna from the Europa League and Fiorentina from the Conference League means that Italy’s European campaign for this season is over. As a result, it is now definitively established that Italy will have four clubs competing in the Champions League for the 2026-27 campaign.

The teams finishing in fifth and sixth place in Serie A will secure berths in the Europa League, along with the winner of the Coppa Italia.

Additionally, one Italian club will enter the Conference League at the preliminary round. The qualification path for the Coppa Italia winner remains a dynamic situation, as the semi-finalists (Inter, Atalanta, Como, and Lazio) could potentially open up an extra European spot if the trophy winner has already qualified for a European competition through their Serie A standing.

Analysis of Italy’s European Performance

This outcome highlights a challenging European season for Italian clubs, necessitating a strong performance in domestic competitions to secure the maximum number of European slots for the upcoming season.

Italian Representation in European Competitions Next Season

  • Champions League: 4 teams
  • Europa League: 2 teams
  • Conference League: 1 team

The final standings in Serie A and the outcome of the Coppa Italia will determine the exact participants for each competition.
