Italian Coach Farioli Secures First League Title with FC Porto

At just 37 years old, Italian coach Francesco Farioli has guided FC Porto to their Primeira Liga championship, surpassing Jose Mourinho’s Benfica.

A 1-0 victory against Alverca this evening solidified their position at the top of the league, creating a nine-point lead after Benfica’s 2-2 draw with Famalicao.

With only two matches remaining, FC Porto has mathematically secured the title. This marks their first league championship in four years, breaking a streak of wins by Benfica and then Sporting CP. This triumph represents FC Porto’s 31st league title.

A Career Milestone for Farioli

Farioli, an Italian tactician, began his coaching journey in roles such as goalkeeping trainer and assistant manager, notably working alongside Roberto De Zerbi at Benevento and Sassuolo.

He later ventured into independent management in Turkish football with Fatih Karagumruk and Alanyaspor, followed by stints at OGC Nice and Ajax.

FC Porto appointed Farioli in July 2025. In his first season, he has overseen 38 wins, 8 draws, and 5 losses across all competitions, also reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

This league title is the first major trophy of Farioli’s managerial career, achieved just a month after his 37th birthday.
