Inter’s Darmian: Focused on Serie A Title, Unfazed by Referee Scandal

Matteo Darmian asserts that Inter Milan remains concentrated on securing the Serie A title, undeterred by recent accusations within a new referee scandal. He stated, “We will try to win the Scudetto in front of our fans next week.”

Inter played to a 2-2 draw against Torino on Sunday, a match where Torino managed to come back from a two-goal deficit.

With this result, Inter now holds a ten-point lead over second-placed Napoli. This means a victory in their upcoming match against Parma would clinch the Scudetto with three games remaining.

However, the past 24 hours have been dominated by reports of a new referee scandal in Italy, potentially involving Inter. The head of referees, Gianluca Rocchi, is reportedly accused of selecting match officials who are favored by Inter.

Inter’s President, Beppe Marotta, has refuted these allegations, maintaining that the club has no involvement in the scandal.

Torino 2-2 Inter: Darmian’s Post-Match Comments

“We see the news, but we strive to stay focused on the field and on what we need to do to finish the season in the best way possible,” Darmian shared with Sky Sport Italia, as reported by TMW.

The defender added, “Before today’s game, we needed four points; we aimed to win, but we were unable to achieve it.”

“We will attempt to secure it next week in front of our supporters to win the Scudetto. Last season ended in the worst possible way, despite still being a positive outcome overall. It wasn’t easy to restart, especially mentally, but we handled it well, also thanks to the coach. We’ve given our all, and we are content.”

Darmian marked his 300th Serie A appearance today. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and speculation suggests the former Manchester United defender might return to Torino next summer.

“I’m not thinking about that right now. I want to enjoy these final games,” he commented.

“We will celebrate once it is mathematically confirmed, and then we have a Coppa Italia Final. My future is not something I’m considering at the moment.

“I was sidelined with injury for a significant period, but I’ve always made myself available. I have always respected the coach’s decisions. I understand that one can be important even without playing every match,” Darmian concluded.

“I’ve consistently made myself available. This season, we’ve demonstrated the mental strength of this group. It was challenging after the previous campaign, but we are great individuals first and foremost. I’ve been at Inter for six years, and experiencing ups and downs is natural.”
