Ruben Loftus-Cheek Returns to AC Milan Training After Painful Jaw Injury
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has rejoined his AC Milan teammates in training today, signaling his potential return to competitive action. His comeback could happen as early as the upcoming match against Napoli, following an eight-week absence due to a facial fracture.
The midfielder had been sidelined since February 22, when he suffered a serious injury during an accidental collision with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi. The incident required Loftus-Cheek to be stretchered off the field with a neck brace.
He subsequently underwent surgery to mend a fracture of the alveolar bone in his jaw. The unfortunate clash also resulted in the loss of several teeth.
Following the operation, an estimated recovery period of approximately eight weeks was anticipated. This projection has proven accurate, as his return to group training today was a welcome sight for the club.
Consequently, it is expected that the former Chelsea player will be considered for selection for the crucial Serie A encounter against third-placed Napoli, scheduled after the current international break. This season has presented challenges for Loftus-Cheek, who has contributed three goals and one assist across 27 competitive appearances for Milan.
Meanwhile, fellow Milan players Matteo Gabbia and Rafael Leao are continuing their respective rehabilitation processes to recover from their own injuries.
