According to reports from France, AC Milan has reached an agreement for a straightforward loan of Zachary Athekame to Olympique Lyonnais, without any option to purchase him permanently.

Earlier today, Italian media had already indicated that Athekame was among the players likely to depart the squad following a disappointing pre-season under new coach Ruben Amorim.

Athekame Failed to Impress at Milan

Just a few hours later, French transfer expert Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport revealed that Lyon had finalized terms for a dry loan, meaning there is no purchase option at the conclusion of the season.

The Ligue 1 club will cover his entire salary for the duration of the campaign, after which he is set to return to San Siro in the summer of 2027.

Athekame, a Swiss international, was acquired just a year ago from Young Boys for €10 million plus add-ons. However, he struggled to make a significant impact with the Rossoneri.

He participated in 29 competitive matches, scoring two goals against Pisa and Genoa, and providing two assists for his teammates.

His current contract with Milan extends until June 2030.
