Malagò: Public Support Remains, No Word from Galliani

Giovanni Malagò, the current FIGC President, believes he still has public backing and support from within the Italian FA. This comes amid speculation that he might have to resign from his post. He stated that he has not heard from Adriano Galliani, who is being considered as a potential replacement.

Malagò was elected President of the Italian football association in June. However, a technicality regarding his membership status at the time of the vote could force him to step down. Prior to leading the FIGC, Malagò served as the President of CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee.

Recent reports suggest that Malagò's departure is increasingly probable due to this issue, potentially leading to the FIGC being placed under a special commissioner, with Galliani named as a possible candidate. When questioned by reporters after an FIGC event in Rome, ahead of Roberto Mancini's return as head coach for the Italy national team's match against Belgium, Malagò indicated he preferred to focus on football matters.

He told reporters, "As far as I’m concerned, the situation has been externalized. But, I only want to talk about football." Malagò added, "I don’t feel like sending any messages to anyone. It’s all very clear. Aside from the people on the inside, I think there is a big wave of support from the public and in the media."

Regarding the rumors of Galliani taking temporary charge, Malagò stated, "I’ve never heard from him. Advice is always welcome. I have a great relationship with him, but I’ve not heard from him."

Looking ahead to the Italy vs. Belgium game, Malagò expressed confidence in head coach Roberto Mancini, whom he considers a close friend. "I spoke to him before the press conference yesterday, I also saw him two days ago at Coverciano. He knows the place well, as well as he does the world of football. The ball is still round, that we know."

On the importance of young players in the new Italian project, Malagò mentioned, "Ranieri is always in contact with Zola. I created the conditions for this to happen, but I don’t want to replace any other roles. It’s to show that we can do it and that we are addressing the situation in a determined manner."
