Lazio Reportedly Opts Against Basic Extension, Player Set for Free Exit
Recent reports indicate that Lazio has reversed its decision regarding Toma Basic's contract. Despite earlier indications of an agreement until 2030, the club will reportedly not offer him a new deal, allowing him to depart as a free agent on June 30.
Basic is among several players at the Stadio Olimpico whose current contracts are nearing their end. The club is reportedly implementing strict financial measures, focusing on reducing its overall wage expenditure. Consequently, a number of these players are expected to be released at the conclusion of the current season.
Lazio Reconsiders Basic's Future
Toma Basic had previously been considered the most probable candidate for a contract extension, with various rumors circulating about an agreement for a deal lasting until June 2030, potentially including a salary of €2.5 million per season.
However, recent information suggests that the club's management has revised its stance and is now prepared to allow the 29-year-old's current contract to expire on June 30.
An injury sustained in February led to his absence from the squad, subsequently disrupting the progress he had been making under coach Maurizio Sarri.
Basic arrived at Lazio in 2021 from Girondins de Bordeaux in a €7.1 million transfer. This season, he has featured in 17 competitive matches, contributing one goal and two assists.
