Italy 2-0 Northern Ireland: Tonali inspirational for Azzurri World Cup dream

Italy has advanced to the World Cup play-off final after a dominant 2-0 victory over Northern Ireland. The decisive win was spearheaded by Sandro Tonali, who delivered a stellar performance by scoring one goal and assisting Moise Kean for the second.

The Azzurri entered this critical match missing key players Federico Chiesa, Mattia Zaccagni, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, and Gianluca Scamacca. However, Alessandro Bastoni and Matteo Politano recovered from minor knocks to feature in the starting lineup. Northern Ireland, who secured their play-off spot largely through their Nations League performance, were without Ali McCann, Conor Bradley, and Daniel Ballard. Tonali was once again the architect, delivering a precise ball over the top. Kean controlled it with his right foot, used the bounce to turn past his defender, and swept a left-footed shot into the far post, making it 2-0.

Marco Palestra made his senior debut, displaying skill with a sensational touch from Dimarco’s cross, although Pio Esposito couldn't keep the ball in play. In added time, a Northern Ireland free-kick caused a scramble in the six-yard box, but they were unable to convert the chance.
